Week Eleven
If you go to this website, http://www.webhome.idirect.com/~muskokajoe/lyric/gillygilly.html
you will find the words to the song I was talking about, sung by Max Bygraves.
Except usually known as gilly gilly ossenfeffer katzenellenbogen by the sea when
sung by Max Bygraves. You can find it on the BBC website, which I'll send
to you later. I thought I found a midi file for it the other day, but am
now having difficulty finding it.
I am currently picking out the music on the piano. When I've got it
reasonably well, I'll scan it and send it to you and also to Nick. Might
be rather fun to get him to do a track for it and get everyone to sing it for
Jenny?

Just scroll down to the play list - No. 19. You need Realplayer, or
something similar.

(The windmills have now been constructed and are beginning to take shape...)
It feels good to be in the theatre. The
movements on stage are beginning to make more sense and I can visualise how it
will come together. Whether that is more about the number of times we have
rehearsed or the venue change...who knows. I wonder whether being in such a
fantastic performance space makes everyone tune into their performance more than
they would in the workshop. It certainly felt like it.
Sol the Seagull is a funny ol' fella to play. I keep feeling a bit awkward and
clumsy but maybe that's what's working?!!! It will be great to have to ladder in
place so I can adjust my performance accordingly. There will have to be a
restriction to my large, 'two hand gestures' when I'm four metres up the
ladder.
I am excited and scared and thrilled and tired. At this time of the year, with a
semesters work coming to a head, the looming timetable for the next few weeks
makes me feel quite ill with exhaustion. But, I'm sure we will all get through
it and create a wonderful, engaging piece of theatre for young people. My
daughter has already given her thumbs up to the stuff she's heard so far. At
least she'll laugh in the performance.
Good luck everyone. I feel that we are all learning to trust each other and to
feel okay about risking ourselves. Thanks...see you next week!!!!!

(... and so are the waves, which are now painted and ready to use)
Greetings to the old world
I have found the move to nexus to be very interesting. It is one thing to be rehearsing
in the workshop room where we have as much space as we want, but applying our
movements to a set stage has been different. This was seen in our rehearsals on Wednesday
where we seemed to be a little lost. However, the play itself is evolving in a
way that is fantastic to see. I think it is going to help having the music and
the sound effects as it will give us more insight into our cues to enter and
exit.
One thing that is really important to remember is our lines. I know i stuffed up
one line in rehearsals and that stuffed up someone else because i didn't say the
correct line. We have to be aware that it is not individual performances that
make the play (ie no I in team), we need to boost our performance to contribute
to the play as a whole (sorry bout the language i have been writing a paper).
Generally, from my journal and essay, i have reflected how important it is to
balance our time management. We don't want to get to performance week and have
to be admitted to hospital for exhaustion. Assignments should try to be
completed before rehearsals get intense and remember to take regular breaks (now
im sounding like a doctor.. shoot me).
You are doing a GREAT job on the web page. well done

Thanks
again for all your work on the website...it's a very valuable addition to the

Week Twelve
(Wednesday dress rehearsal for the crabs)
We're about to get into what can only be
described as the most intense week of theatre most of us will ever experience.
At this point you probably feel a little under-rehearsed and fairly terrified at
the prospect of getting up in front of a full Nexus in under two weeks time
(that's right UNDER TWO WEEKS!!!). Some words of wisdom I've always found
helpful; It'll be alright on the night. Somehow, against what can seem
like unsurmountable odds, it will be alright. It's going to take a whole
lot of time, effort, blood, sweat, tears and most importantly teamwork, but it
will be alright. Production week is damn hard work You are going to
find little time to do anything else. Family members are going to start
calling you to make sure
you're still alive. Friends will accuse you of abandoning them. Pets
will run away to find an owner who loves them. But it will all be worth it
in the end. Honestly.
Melissa Merchant
(The Pirates at the Sunday rehearsal)
I'm in a bit of a pickle..... Have just been
thrown in as producer on a short film that's scheduled for filming on sat and
sun this weekend... but we now have no lead male. We are looking for slim-med
(height no real problem) no beard, but moustache ok.
The film is set in ww1 whereby a company of Australian soldiers come across a
cat in the battlefield trenches, and change their focus from battling the enemy
to protecting the cat.
The director is Rob Lee and cinematographer is Steve Rice (worked on Full Metal
Jacket, Star Wars- Return of the Jedi, Revolution, Indiana Jones, Dark Crystal
etc), the location is Gossage Rd in Oakford; they have a massive replicated
battlefield built on a private property... looks damn awesome.
I am working with these two on a feature film next month, so there will no doubt
be some sort of role for the person (since Paul Barron is involved and is Steve's
best mate... this is basically a test for me. we have a massive international
cast for the feature so... please help)
All costumes are completed, there will be pyrotechnics and all on this shoot
will be visually spectacular
Please pass the word around... please....
I am contactable on 0410023219 or call Rob Lee on 0409524627.
Thanks heaps guys.
...forgot to mention age group... he needs
to be roughly 40... compromise is a virtue though so anyone near that age is
perfect.

(The finalised and painted Dutch windmill)
Here is an update of what has been done in
the set design/building as of today:
The windmill is finished, painted and ready to be used. It is quite big so at
least 2 people will have to move it on and off stage. The waves are finished
(finally) and pop-up perfectly. Remember, they are not to be stepped on unless
absolutely necessary. The bandstand has been built and painted, ready for the
band to move in. And everything else that was needed to be done by this stage,
has been done.
