Bonus clues are an extra competition that has been included in The Chase. Your team will either receive a postcard marked Bonus or an SMS from an Organiser. The Bonus clue will either be a quiz-type question or a specific task to complete. Clues can come with or without a photograph, however if there is a picture, the task or next postcard will be located within 3 metres of where the photo was taken. The solving or completion of a Bonus will give you team points that will be tallied at the end of The Chase. Teams will receive information to the requirements of the task, which may or may not have to be successfully complete to receive the next clue. After completion of a Bonus, teams will could receive a Final Destination Clue (Tan), Final Location (Orange), True or False (Green), Split (Blue) or even another Bonus (Rose), however teams will always be informed through the 'note' (located on the base of each postcard). The winning team will be the group with the highest amount of completed questions and tasks.
The following are some examples of a Bonus (Rose) clue from previous events to better illustrate the purpose of this postcard...
This postcard will award points only the first team to this location. This Bonus is asking teams to travel to Dinosaur Park in Palmyra, as indicated by the word 'Dino' and the pictured (above) dinosaur artwork. 'Carrington' connotes Carrington Street, however no other information is given. No suburb name, dissecting street name or exact location is given to teams, as the Bonus requires teams to work it out to be awarded the points.
Once again, this postcard will only award points the first team to find it. The Bonus, in this example, focuses more on the teams knowledge of this iconic wall in the Fremantle suburbs (pictured above). 'Freo' blatantly indicates Fremantle, however 'Telescope' is a cryptic word connoting the Hubble Telescope. Only teams knowing this location by sight would be able to find it on Hubble Street first, and thus deservedly acquire the Bonus points. The lack of exact location information and the cryptic street name, makes it a very difficult clue.
In this clue, teams are blatantly instructed where to go, however no photograph is provided. The Bonus instantly communicates to teams the street name, destination and the exact location to find the next clue. The postcard also instructs the first team to 'walk the spit' to receive the Bonus point, only allocated to the successful completion of the task. In this example, teams are also told that their next clues will be waiting on the 'jetty', however they will only be available after the first team has 'claimed the bonus'.
The theme of this Bonus indicates a choice of tasks. 'Time or Climb' is blatantly explained through the information provided on the postcard. Teams are also told where to drive to, however not given a photograph, a street or a suburb name; thus making the Bonus difficult to find, yet not complete. The teams are told to 'Tell or show' their answer to an organizer, where in this case, will give them their next clue regardless of a correct or incorrect answer. The 'note', in this example, indicates that all teams can claim the Bonus and it will lead them to their next clue, however some attempt must be made to solve or complete the task.
