Week Five - Week Six 2008
Week Five: Auditions

(Scripts are handed out just before auditions)
Murdoch University Children’s Performance Group
Presents
The Captive Carousel
Written and Directed by Jenny de Reuck
Designed by Lindsay Lloyd
Synopsis
Something is not quite right in Madame Columbina’s Funfair. Punch and Judy are afraid to perform these days because things go wrong when they least expect it and Harlequin is troubled by the behaviour of the clowns in Side-Show Alley. Add to this the fact that the Galloping Horses of the Carousel have seen something frightening on the Ghost Train, and it’s clear that all is not well. Perhaps only sad little Pierrette can help them because she alone remembers what Madame Sosotris, the Fortune Teller, once told them …
Join the creatures of the Funfair in their attempts to solve the mystery. What is it that has stopped the Ferris Wheel from turning and blocks the entry to the Helter Skelter? Who is it that seeks to steal the laughter? The creatures of the Funfair will need all the help they can get if they’re to overcome the evil forces let loose on their world and recover once again the lost laughter of the Carnival.
This year’s interactive production from Murdoch University is suitable for primary school children in Years 1-5 and, with its focus on working co-operatively together to solve the mystery, it promises to educate as well as entertain young audiences. Children will once again be presented with a colourful set, inventive costumes, appealing characters, and a lively script: and original music, a hallmark of our shows, will enhance the complete theatrical experience.

(Painting is running ahead of schedule)
I'd just like to reinforce Brad's E-mail and ask if anyone can help over the next few days with at least painting the backdrop I would be most appreciative. Even if you want to act you can at least help paint the backdrop. One day of a full crew and we might get most of it done.

Here are the words for one of Darren's great tongue twisters, good luck...
What a to-do to die today at a minute or two to two
A thing distinctly hard to say but a harder thing to do
For they'll beat a tattoo at two to two
a rat-ta-ta, tat-ta-ta, tat-ta-ta, too
And the dragon will come when he hears the drum
At a minute or two to two today, at a minute or two to two

(Final charcoaling beings on the backdrop)
